selfish sewing week is back!

the return of Selfish Sewing Week is imminent!! on april 28, this week-long celebration of making for ourselves will commence!

ssw logo final 2

that’s right, there’s even have a fancy new logo to celebrate! I couldn’t resist… I’m so excited about seeing what everyone makes, and I have big plans myself. in addition, there will be featured stitchers reviewing some great indie patterns, and there will be an amazing pattern giveaway, so you don’t want to miss it.

a huge thank you goes out to the Selfish Sewing Week sponsors… aurifil, Girl Charlee, and Hawthorne Threads! I happen to adore all of them to begin with, and their support of SSW is icing on the cake :)

I am so proud to announce that SSW will now be hosted on Kollabora. (cue bells, whistles, and confetti!!) Kollabora is a community for makers, and the site aims to “unite makers, crafters, and DIY enthusiasts of all skill levels to get inspired, share projects, buy and sell PDF patterns, and connect with each other and their favorite brands.” basically, it’s a fabulous place to share and to be inspired, and we’re over the moon excited to partner with them!

so, if you’re not already on Kollabora, get yourself familiar with the site and follow along here for all of the Selfish Sewing Week updates. when you share your SSW projects, make sure to include the Selfish Sewing Week event in the “inspired by” section of your project so that it shows up in the event feed.

just like that, easy peasy! now all you need to do is think about what you’ll make first. at the top of my list is a queen sized quilt for MY bed. ok, mr. gnats can use it too ;) i’ve been saying i’d make one for a few years now, and the time has come to just make it. no more excuses!

what’s on your selfish sewing list?

happy stitching!

    • Rachael Gander April 2, 2014 at 4:13 pm #

do you have any fabric there?? i seem to be gathering a Katy-stack ;)

  3. Linda L. April 1, 2014 at 10:03 pm #

Katy …. the point of Selfish Sewing Week is that you do it whether the deck’s clear or not!! ;-D I know that if I waited until I was done ‘doing for others’ to make something for me, hell wouldn’t be the only thing frozen over!
Thanks, Rachael! This is a great push to step of the treadmill and do some me-work.

  7. PendleStitches April 3, 2014 at 1:53 pm #

Hmmmmm….I’m sorely tempted to join in. The kids will be back at school and I have fabric for tops and dresses and need trousers desperately. I could get at least one thing completed that week, no?

  8. Helena April 3, 2014 at 3:36 pm #

Every week is selfish sewing for me. But I will sign up presently! (I already love Kollabora!)

I just signed up for Kollabora, um, last year, and am just now noticing how cool it is!

I wish I could officially participate, but maybe, just maybe I’ll get something sewn for myself to wear to QM and link it up.

I will be perusing all the selfish makes. Oh how I love to see makers makin’ it for ourselves!!

    • Rachael Gander April 9, 2014 at 7:46 am #

me too!! that’s my favorite part. there’s something magical about makers making for themselves, isn’t there?

  12. Julie April 9, 2014 at 7:17 am #

I guess I might be considered a selfish sewer all year long, but is that a reason not to join?

  14. Cathy E April 20, 2014 at 8:10 pm #

Wonderful interview with a designer I knew nothing about. He certainly described Mitchell well-much the way I remember him. I worked freelance for several year with LarryShinoda after he formed his own company and had heard some of those same stories from him.My compliments to those who put this story totl.hergCeark Lincoln
